the original, with a well-constructed bassline incorporates a warm up melody that begins to set the tone for the night ahead. each layer is distinct as the track begins to build itself right to its crescendo when each of those individual layers collectively come together. you can distinctly hear the 80 s like synths that are cleverly inserted into the track which are highlighted by the female vocal samples. the grittier elements add a touch of darkness and instantly transport you to a warehouse club with an intimate atmosphere. the remix, done by the widely loved tech-house duo pleasurekraft jack up the tempo a notch, and add a bouncy groove to the track. where the original brought out a darker side, the remix is more upbeat and settles in well for a peak hour set. bringing that crisp bassline to the fore, and tuning out the melodies to make them a tad subtler it showcases a more tech-house version of the original. there s an added element a slightly more haunted vibe which is coupled together with those gritty and harder elements. all i can conclude is what a tech-house bomb this is from the highly talented pleasurekraft. they always manage to bring something new and unique to every single track they ve ever remixed which truly shows their remarkability as consistently good producers.

in the late 60s early 70s many american soldiers where stationed all over germany. among those where musicians who played in several army bands like the east of underground who recorded a now sought after album after they had won the special services entertainment showband contest held in frankfurt in 1971. nobody knows which other bands participated in this contest, maybe also the soul explosion which were stationed in augsburg, upper bavaria. around the same time, a man named charles held opened a club in augsburg town called tarantel. furthermore he was running a record label of the same name on which he released a handful of 7inch singles from different, local bands, mainly not funky at all though. the soul explosions release remains the only one in the field of american soul & funk music. the band recorded a fantabulous double sider, one deep funk side with a soulful ballad on the flip which makes both hardcore funk and soul collectors happy. unfortunately there is no more information available about the band, only that they even performed live at the tarantel club.

those generous chaps at aficionado return with their tenth release, eager to extend your summer with a 12 inch ticket to the sun and fun of la isla blanca. as you should know by now, messrs moon and boardman dont do things by halves so rather than hastily booking a scattering of seats on an easyjet airbus, they have plumped for the luxury and bliss of club class on onyricon air, the airline that gives you mas y mas. this pan european consortium, headed up by the production duo of leo mas and fabrice (ably assisted by the writing talent of italo legends rago and farina) formed with the aim of creating the perfect flying experience and their triumph is presented in all its transcendent beauty on the opening track.

kenny dope and louie vegas nu-yorican soul project was responsible for some of the biggest underground club hits to come out of nyc throughout the 1990s, their collective vast musical knowledge, impeccable taste and legendary status as djs in the city only helped elevate them to the highest level.
the nervous track is a fine example of the duos deep musical heritage, originally released on nervous records in 1993 its deep pads, bassline and solid as a rock breakbeats captured the ears and minds of any self respecting dj or dancer who came within a hundred miles of it, the very definition of a classic! fusing the worlds of jazz, latin, hiphop and house maw set the blueprint for generations of djs and producers to come with records like this.
here, re-mastered and re-issued from the original dats in conjunction with nervous records nyc is a piece of dance music history, the nervous track is available again and still sounding as vital and groundbreaking as it did on its original release.

stroboscopic artefacts celebrate five years in business with a series of special anniversary releases, featuring selected artists from the sa story-so-far who have strongly shaped the labels identity. in drowned by sight, rrose sets the tone for the record with a deep and twisting take on club techno.

the cover *theme* shimmers orange-brown and is one more reason to welcome the coming autumn. basels superkid benotmane wows us with a deep melodic track whose vocals have us quickly lost in a dream. whether we are floating, eyes-closed, across the dance-floor at an open-air or in a club, something becomes undeniable, serious goosebumps are happening. the two guys from kaiser souzai have presented us with two remixes that ultimately convince through their technoid and pulsing grooves. eskimo is the whittled-down original, reduced to its main components –revealing these with its very own flow.

skylax welcomes f.t.g., known to house music scholars as freddy the groove, and his many friends for our next release in 2014. last year, f.t.g. and his italian partner in crime, marco riff (who also appears on this very record), pressed a very limited run of a single-sided, special throwback tribute to late 80s chicago house music. the track was aptly named ‘tribute ’89’, and it put a more dancefloor oriented twist on a track by a certain originator with the initials r.h. needless to say, it became highly sought-after incredibly quickly and fuel was further added to the fire by the repeated club play by none other than the dj idol ricardo villalobos. luckily for our followers, that original mix appears on this ep with another unreleased mix of the track and 2 originals featuring belfie and alex tea alongside f.t.g.with enough said about ‘tribute ‘89’ itself, the unreleased mix maintains the warehouse vibe with a heavy kick and bouncing bass pattern but takes it to another level with the introduction of rolling vocal cuts and a rather ravey synth line. flipping over the to b-side, we are treated with two tracks by f.t.g. and alex tea, named ‘public enemy’ and ‘bango’, with the former also seeing belfie lend a helping hand in the production. both of these originals round out the record nicely and cement it as another skylax release that is definitely not to be missed

the second chapter for bizarro group zanzibar chanel, the yin-yang collaboration of agitated force zac segbedzi aka imhotep and cooled out louis cl. raw nrg captured on the fly in melbourne, the sequence of these diy productions reflect their dynamic equilibrium. on the a-side, drunk at the jazz club lays down some lo-tech disco with submerged symphonic keys and the squelching demented valentine one question. flip the record donald duck invades the elevating chicago melodies of flying high - mustnt evolves pure evil extraterrestrial funk (shout outs to dungeon master possee).

after few nolder, italian fellow lehar aka lorenzo esposito is the second new signing for connaisseur this year. apart from his residency at the cirq club in venice and regular bookings at some of the best clubs and parties in italy and malta, lehar truly is a very talented producer as well. some of you might have heard the free download for lehars remix of kollektiv turmstrasses classic *tristesse* which has caused some attention on him the past weeks and was therefore the perfect precursor for this release. his demo impressed us very much and both titles really hit our taste. and as though this wasn t enough, together with his demo he delivered a remix by his friend and probably hottest producer of the moment: mario basanov, head of the label boso and mostly know under his moniker ten walls.

promised land is a hands down acid house anthem. fact. released in 1988 on chicagos dj international label it became one of the first crossover hits of house music. transcending electronic musics boundaries it entered the worlds minds & ears with its positive lyrics & chicago house rhythms. this 2014 reissue brings together 4 definitive remastered original mixes of this all time essential classic.

what does a rave sound like the next day? the strobe lights in a dark warehouse, the pounding kick, the blur of ecstatic faces lead to a morning-after emptiness, all fade into memories of the friends you once had. on ode, tin man (proper name johannes auvinen) explores this feeling, offering tracks which possess an exhausted joy, the aural equivalent of the stretch of time beginning when the last record is played and stretching on towards the doleful contemplation of last night’s unmade sheets. appropriately, tin man’s melancholic dance music is more club-ready than ever.

southern moon is the first pre single of the upcoming munk album and comes with remixes by hnny (local talk) and darius syrossian (hot creations).. with its crisp house beat, funk baseline and beautiful singing of lizzie paige this track is a shiny little summersong that makes you think of the great production of trevor horn or masters at work with a new edge.

londoners kiwi and ashworth return to sneaky for a follow-up to dawn ep, the warm, dusty and at times experimental release, championed by the likes of daniel avery, eric duncan and tiefschwarz. the past few months have been busy for both halves of the duo, with kiwi signing to duke dumont s blase boys club and remixing for house music super-labels bpitch control and get physical, whilst ashworth has signed music to tomoki tamura s holic trax and needwant. second ep takes a new format, with two original tracks alaska and na am on the a-side, backed up by a nicholas & marcoradi remix of cux3 and ranacat s remix of zubr. alaska could be described as an amalgamation of the inspirations that lead to the first sneaky release, combining the pumping house beats of cux3, the comforting wurlitzer of zubr and the ethereal movie-soundtrack dusk. na am is something totally different, existing mainly as a collage of recorded and found sounds, avoiding the usual structure of house music in favour of something reminiscent of the weirder side of the chemical brothers. strange though the track may be, the climax would undoubtedly move a room full of pilled up ravers to a state of frenzy. the b-side remixes both hint to dance floors of the 90s, with nicholas and marcoradi making you wait and wait before dropping an unforgettable piano hook, whilst sneaky s ranacat lifts zubr out of context and into peak time territory.

as a member of parisian band club cheval, a solo dj and as one part of the notorious bromance records unit, sam tiba escapes on his own with the release of his samuel ep this september. with musical influences coming from the american ghetto underground, from miami to baltimore, sam continues to push forward as an intriguing musician with his sensual and dreamlike productions.

steve frisco, of serie limitee fame, brings us the latest bundle of hot tracks to hit wax classic in 2014. as the title suggests, steve takes us on a journey through low fidelity sounds and production techniques. think dark, moody, yet crunchy basement house tracks with inspiration taken from all over the u.s and the rest of the house world. it’s a generous offering as well. six whole dusty tunes for those diggers who are looking for something with a bit more range than another record of generic piano laden, house-by-numbers pieces that still seem to be flooding the record store shelves in 2014. the moods do vary from track to track, but they remain very reflective and almost melancholic at points. the title track, ‘adventure in lo-fi’, is the deepest of the lot with filtered chords, echoing claps and a sporadic kick pattern that often clears way for the track’s bass hits. now, compare that to ‘da brooklyn beat’. whilst the former had a distinct sunrise/sunset kind of feel to it, the latter is definitely more of a club affair. skippy snare hits and a strong organ lead the track on, and at the risk of utilizing very overused buzzwords such as ‘raw’ and ‘ruff’, this track, and the rest of the a-side for that matter, certainly captures that essence. stalwart wax classic fans will no doubt be picking this one up to add to their collection. however, i strongly recommend this ep as a jumping in point to the label for any newcomers out there

mr assister - more commonly known as the drummer that james blake sings for - unleashes his debut double b-side release on 1-800-dinosaur, the london based label and club-night of which he is a founding member. the seismic lead track bala has received rapturous feedback from the likes of jamie xx, jd twitch, martyn, gilles peterson & pearson sound etc and was made on a laptop in mr as kitchen without much knowledge of the software he was using at the time. prior to bala he came up with the deeper, headier house workout reggae drums on the tour bus, using samples of drums from reggae songs.

last year accidental records released herbert complete, a 130- track boxset featuring herberts entire extensive back catalogue. it included rare and unreleased tracks from the mid 90s right up to the critically acclaimed bodily functions and scale albums. though this might have felt like the closing of the doors for matthew herberts house moniker, particularly with the ever forward-thinking producer having moved onto making music out of an exploding bomb, a shopping list, a club and even a pig, this thankfully is not the end for this side of the prolific composers output. following last months release of the 4-track ep part 6 comes the unsurprisingly titled part 7.
